Finding the grove of Rainbow Eucalyptus on the road to Hana in Maui, was truly a ‘bucket list’ experience. I had painted this magnificent species several years ago from a photo, and always dreamt of seeing one in real life. When I spotted them ,nearly 15 in all, I nearly leapt from the car to run to them! They were more beautiful than I ever imagined. Tall, smooth, almost rubbery textured bark. The colours were as rich and saturated as they appeared in the photo i had painted from. Greens, oranges, burgundy and browns striated into a gorgeous mesmerizing trunk. It moved me to tears.
